Join me in making this your prayer today! Pastor Mike Padgett
The Purpose of Our Life, GLORIFY GOD! Pastor Mike Padgett Seven months of 2019 are gone! Where did the time go? The calendar moves too fast these days! What have we accomplished that really matters? If you are like me, there are way too few achievements! I need to make the most of my time and seek to glorify the Lord. Our main purpose in life is to glorify God. Whatever we do should have glorifying God as it’s goal. I waste far too much time in things that will not matter for eternity. I don’t spend enough time seeking first God’s objectives. I put my will before His. As a believer, my first desire should be to glorify Him and love Him with all my heart, mind, soul and body. I love the Old Testament examples we have of men and women that sought to glorify God with their lives. Think of Abraham (Genesis 12-25). He was called the friend of God. He believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness or justification. His eternal salvation was all wrapped up in believing God. He wasn’t perfect but he believed God’s Word and obeyed it. And, it is the same with us. We must believe God and act upon His Word. That is how we demonstrate our belief in Him, by obedience. Think of Joseph (Genesis 30-50). Wow! There is a story! He was sold by his brothers into slavery. He was tempted by his master’s wife. He was thrown in jail. Then he was called to Pharaoh’s house to serve him. In all of this Joseph did not disobey God. He glorified God in all he did and his obedience in faith landed him the position of second in command of all of Egypt and its riches. I just finished the book of Job. Poor Job! He lost everything. He was a rich man and God gave the Devil permission to destroy all he had. He suffered grief and poverty. Then God gave the Devil permission to touch his body and cause him to suffer physically. But in all of this, Job did not deny God but kept on believing God is faithful and that God would make it right. And God did make it right. After the trials, he was richer than before with more children, donkeys, camels and livestock and family … wow!! What about the Widow of Zarephath that believed God’s word through Elijah (1 Kings 17)? Elijah shows up and asks for something to drink and eat and she tells him, “As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.” Talk about a sad situation! But she obeyed the Word of the Lord and had her needs met. “And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.” God worked a miracle on her behalf! I guess the point I am making is that you and I need to put God first like these individuals did and we can expect God to bless us in His time. He will make it right and we will be blessed either now or in eternity. Our job is to obey. Some great promises come to mind as I finish this writing. Matthew 6:33–34, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Philippians 4:6–7, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Pastor Mike Padgett Glasgow Bible Church I have a great concern and continual burden for my fellow citizens of Glasgow/Barren County Kentucky. I have been pastoring here for twenty-two years now. I am very acquainted with the “Christian Culture” that still has a strong hold but declining influence upon our population. I am more convinced now than ever before that much of the good we still have in our county is a result of “Cultural Christianity”. Statistics show that out of some 45,000 people in Barren County only some 15,000 or less attend church regularly on Sundays. That is only 1/3 of the population that is somewhat dedicated to their beliefs. I am burdened by the question, “If your ‘faith’ is not strong enough to get you out of bed and into church on Sundays, do you really think that kind of faith will get you to heaven?” “Cultural Christianity is religion that superficially identifies itself as ‘Christianity’ but does not truly adhere to the faith. A ‘cultural Christian’ is a nominal believer—he wears the label ‘Christian,’ but the label has more to do with his family background and upbringing than any personal conviction that Jesus is Lord. Cultural Christianity is more social than spiritual. A cultural Christian identifies with certain aspects of Christianity, such as the good works of Jesus, but rejects the spiritual aspects required to be a biblically defined Christian. Some people consider themselves ‘Christians’ because of family background, personal experience, country of residence, or social environment. Others identify as ‘Christian’ as a way of declaring a religious affiliation, as opposed to being ‘Muslim’ or ‘Buddhist.’ Famed scientist and atheist Richard Dawkins refers to himself as a ‘cultural Christian’ because he admires some of the ceremonial and philanthropic aspects of Christianity. Dawkins is not born again; he simply sees ‘Christianity’ as a label to use.” https://www.gotquestions.org/cultural-Christianity.html Are you simply a “Cultural Christian”? Perhaps you even attend church sometimes. But when and if you compare your daily life to the truths of the Bible do you find yourself coming up short? What do Christians believe and live for and by? Note the following quoted from https://www.gotquestions.org/cultural-Christianity.html 1. The core beliefs of Christianity are summarized in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, was resurrected, and thereby offers salvation to all who will receive Him in faith. 2. Unique among all other faiths, Christianity is more about a relationship than religious practices. Instead of adhering to a list of “do’s and don’ts,” the goal of a Christian is to cultivate a close walk with God. 3. Christians believe that the Bible is the inspired, “God-breathed” Word of God and its teaching is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). 4. Christians believe in one God that exists in three persons—the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. 5. Christians believe mankind was created specifically to have a relationship with God, but sin separates all men from God (Romans 3:23; 5:12). 6. Christians believe after His death, Christ was buried, He rose again, and now lives at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for the believers forever (Hebrews 7:25). 7. Christianity proclaims Jesus’ death on the cross was sufficient to completely pay the sin debt owed by all men and this is what restores the broken relationship between God and man (Hebrews 9:11-14; 10:10; Romans 5:8; 6:23). 8. Christianity teaches that in order to be saved and be granted entrance into heaven after death, one must place faith solely entirely in the finished work of Christ on the cross. 9. Christianity teaches that Christ died in our place and paid the price of our sins and rose again. There is nothing that anyone can do to earn salvation. 10. We cannot be “good enough” to please God on our own, because we are all sinners (Isaiah 53:6; 64:6-7). There is nothing more to be done, because Christ has done all the work! When He was on the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), meaning that the work of redemption was completed. Do you believe this?

Today our men, on Father's Day, made some solemn promises to God and ended them in a solemn serious prayer together. Here is what they said: The Promises and Prayer of a Christian Father 1. I do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children. 2. I will love them, protect them, serve them and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home. 3. I will be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay my life down for her as Jesus Christ did for me. 4. I will bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength. 5. I will train them to honor authority and live responsibly. 6. I will confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy. 7. I will pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion. 8. I will work diligently to provide for the needs of my family. 9. I will forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged. 10. I will learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable before God. 11. I will seek to honor God, be faithful to His Church, obey His Word, and do His will. 12. I will courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) The Prayer of a Christian Father Lord, please give me the strength to be the man and father you have called me to be. Help me to take full responsibility for my family, to love and protect them, and to teach them your truths. Help me to be faithful in all my relationships, and to bless my children continually. Teach me to train them in Your ways and for me to live righteously for all to see. I pray to show the love of Christ to everyone I encounter and glorify You through my work. Father help me to know forgiveness so I can both receive it and grant it to others. I pray to turn from my wicked ways, to honor You in all that I do, and to live this resolution out for the rest of my days. In Jesus’ name, amen.
